describe the imageThink about your pharmacy layout for a minute. Does your store look just like "any other pharmacy"? If so, consider refreshing your pharmacy's layout. Doing so will give your business a boost. Why?

A better layout is much more convenient for customers

Basing your pharmacy layout on what's most convenient for your customers instead of on any cookie-cutter floor plan truly means good business.

Place comfortable chairs throughout the store

Although you may have seating near the back so that customers can sit and wait for their prescriptions, place comfortable chairs singly or in groups throughout the store, as well. Not only does this create a more homey and attractive atmosphere, but it gives customers a chance to sit down and rest if they need to.

Opt for shelving no higher than eye level whenever possible

Standard (high) metal retail shelving can be difficult for your customers to use, especially if products are not clearly displayed so that customers can see them easily. Opt for lower shelving when possible; customers can find what they need more easily, and attractive shelving showcases products to boost sales.

Place seasonal, sale and high volume products in several locations throughout your store

Your store's layout should always include changing displays for seasonal, sale, and high volume products placed throughout the store, in addition to stocking these items in their departments. Customers can pick up "must haves" easily without having to hunt for them, and this is another way to facilitate sales.

Use attractive, personalized signage that speaks to your brand

Signage is important for customers' convenience so that they can easily find what they need. Personalize it (and increase brand recognition) by using signage that is uniquely yours.

A personalized layout makes you stand out from the competition

The typical, cookie-cutter "pharmacy layout" that most pharmacies have is commonplace – and that's exactly why you should think outside of the box. The typical pharmacy layout look is institutional and boring, and can even be unpleasant. The glare of fluorescent lighting, row after row of cheap shelving, stark and sterile beige or white color schemes – all of this certainly "looks" like the typical pharmacy, to your detriment.

Instead, choose a personalized, dynamic new look and layout, one that sets you apart from the competition. Use bright but soft full-spectrum lighting to create a pleasing atmosphere, plus focal lighting to highlight new products, near the pharmacy counter, or near groups of chairs for an inviting, warm atmosphere.

Paint and carpet your store in soft, soothing colors rather than institutional white, beige, etc. You'll increase customers' comfort and stand out from the crowd – which only improves your bottom line.

A change in pharmacy layout gives customers a fresh perspective

When you never change your pharmacy's layout, customers become used to the "same old, same old" and may become blind to what you have for sale. In addition to making good use of seasonal or sale displays, change your entire layout periodically so that customers see what you have to offer through fresh, new eyes.

Changing your layout lets you experiment with something new

If what you've got currently isn't quite working, change it. If you're bored with it, change it. If you'd like to try something new or you think an idea would work, change it. You can always revise your pharmacy layout again or repaint if you don't like it.

Simply, a new pharmacy layout that is true to you and your vision, your store's personality and commitment to service, will help you stand out from the competition, and will help encourage customer loyalty, as well.
