point_of_purchase_displaysFall is here, with nippier nights, shorter days, and the first changes of autumn leaves. Time to change out your point of purchase displays. Opt for fresh and visually pleasing displays that will attract customers' attention, and encourage impulse buys, too:

Halloween displays

Your Halloween point of purchase displays should stoke anticipation of the day, and should include an enticement and call to action, such as: "All Halloween candy and costumes on sale this week only, 50% off!" Specific product displays include:

  • Candy

Candy is always going to be a top seller, of course, but it's especially lucrative during Halloween. Folks are stocking up in preparation for trick-or-treaters, and one of the little known sales advantages to this type of display is that often, customers eat their Candy supplies before hobbling comes around, so that they have to come back and buy more.

Place Halloween candy POP displays near the checkout, of course, but you should also include end caps of popular candy brands at the end of each aisle, for quick pickup.

  • Digestive aids

You might think it's funny to put digestive aids like antacid tablets, acid blockers, and indigestion preparations' displays together as part of your Halloween display preparations, but children and adults both can overindulge on this day of treats, meaning that digestive aids will come in very handy. The signage you use should allude to this fact: "Stock up now and take care of frightful indigestion on the spot." (This is also a helpful inclusion in your point of purchase displays for Thanksgiving, too, below.)

  • Halloween costumes and accessories

Kids especially will find point of purchase displays with Halloween costumes and accessories exceedingly attractive – and that, of course, means that Mom and Dad will also be drawn into the purchase.

Importantly, place Halloween costume point of purchase displays near the checkout, as well. It may be difficult to place these displays near the checkout with every costume you've got in stock, but you can include a point of purchase display near there with several costumes unpacked and showcased, and then place prominent end caps (with bold signage) throughout the store as well as in the costume- or Halloween-specific aisle.

Thanksgiving displays

You're not jumping the gun if you start putting up Thanksgiving point of purchase displays right after Halloween is over. The holiday is going to be here before people know it, and encouraging them to prepare now by stocking up on supplies right away will save them a lot of headaches. Your calls to action and signage should allude to this fact: "Stock up now, and avoid the Thanksgiving rush!"

  • Nonperishable or easy to keep food items

Depending on your particular retail focus, you can include foodstuffs like sugar, canned pumpkin, raisins, spices, canned sweet potatoes and cranberries, canned broth and bouillon cubes – all things that will keep.

General fall point of purchase displays

  • Clothing

If you sell clothing, put out those sweaters, fleece lined boots, and cozy jackets.

Even if you don't sell clothing in general, you can still offer "quick grab" needs like gloves, scarves, and even slip on shoe protectors (galoshes) at POP displays near the checkout.

As with every display, your call to action is important: "Stay toasty warm this winter by stocking up on winter necessities now! All sweaters and gloves 30% off!"

  • Batteries

Shorter days mean that dependable lighting is a distinct customer need; flashlights and battery-powered lanterns need power, and your POP displays should house most or all battery sizes.

Set up fall point of purchase displays now, and reap the financial benefits they'll bring you.
