store_fixtures_and_variationsWhether you love them or just think they're there to do a job, you need store fixtures for your business. With them, you can arrange your products in a neat and organized fashion. Use store fixtures in just about as many ways as you can count to display your products effectively and enticingly, thus prompting customers to want to buy them.

The most popular store fixture: Gondola shelving

Perhaps the most popular of all the store fixtures is gondola shelving. It's the standard "go to" shelving for just about any business, because of its versatility. Take a look at what you can do with it:

  • Establish your store's layout with it

That's right; although this shelving looks permanent, it's not. Set it up and break it down easily not just to create and change displays, but to create and change your entire store. Set up gondola shelving in any configuration you choose and create your floor plan.

Establish a floor plan that will encourage customers to shop. Create a "traffic flow" footpath that meanders through your store counterclockwise; you'll match customers' propensity to look left, then go right when they first enter. Make departments visible from the footpath so that customers can easily break away to shop and then rejoin the footpath easily. Customers can simply "go with the flow," literally. Happy customers aren't frustrated by overcrowding, which can mean greater profits for you.

  • Create unique displays again and again

This shelving is incredibly versatile. Create display after display with the same shelving components, each is unique in its own right. That means that you can invest in gondola shelving just once and then re-create different displays year after year. That saves you money.

Gondola shelving components

Gondola shelving's unique versatility comes from its design. It is constructed of heavy-duty components meant to work together, interchangeably. They are:

  • The island

The island is a freestanding unit that's available in a variety of heights. It's comprised of a central piece, with shelving attached to either side. The central piece provides a sturdy metal backing for the shelves on either side; you can choose to attach pegboard to this backing if you wish so that you can hang merchandise from it, and/or attach shelves.

The shelves adjust in one-inch height increments, so they'll hold merchandise of just about every shape and size.

You can also create larger shelving units called "runs" by attaching one or more gondola islands together for one continuous display.

  • The wall unit

To use empty wall space within your establishment, you can buy a gondola shelving fixture called a wall unit. The gondola wall unit resembles the gondola island, but shelving is attached only on one side.

  • The endcap

Sometimes, you'll want "just a little more space" in one of your displays, but you won't need the space provided by an entire island. That's where the endcap comes in. Just as with any other gondola shelving component, the endcap attaches seamlessly to the end of the gondola island or run in question; it's the same height and configuration as the rest of the structure, so customers won't be able to tell that you have added another component. As with the gondola island, the endcap comes in a variety of heights and materials to meet your needs.

Don't overlook gondola shelving if you need to buy or replace store fixtures. This "Jack of all trades" in shelving fixtures can fill just about every need you might have, at relatively low cost. Buy once and re-create displays again and again with gondola shelving, for years to come.
